Solar Drinking Water
Reliable Water, Relieved Women: The Solar Solution in Fatepura
A solar-powered water system replaced Fatepura’s unreliable electric pump, reducing water-collection time and bringing dependable supply to around 300 villagers.
Change in action
The story
In Fatepura village, Narmada, getting a pot of drinking water once meant wasted water, high costs, and daily struggle.
Around 300 villagers depended on a faulty electric pump—wasting 50–60 litres each time, breaking down often, and leaving families without water for days. Women spent over an hour daily fetching water, disrupting their entire routine.
Then came a simple but powerful change.
In January 2026, with support from LIC HFL, Deepak Foundation, and Nessa Group, a solar-based water system was installed—bringing taps, storage, and reliable supply.
The impact was immediate. Water collection dropped to just 30 minutes a day, costs fell to zero, and wastage reduced significantly. Even during storms and power cuts, water kept flowing.
Today, what was once a daily struggle is now a source of ease, dignity, and resilience—for the entire village.
From scarcity to sustainability, Fatepura found its flow.
The initiative avoids 2 to 3 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, equivalent to approximately planting 80–120 trees.
